Just been through the Royal Collections Gallery in Madrid.

Right up against the Cathedral and Royal Palace – all that intricate old stonework – and then boom, they’ve cut this massive, bold, modern structure right into the hillside.

Clean, sharp lines.  Reinforced concrete.  Big chunky grey granite pillars.  confident architecture that doesn’t try to mimic the past – it respects it and does something new.

As a builder-developer from NZ, I was impressed.
Sharp, simple and solid – that’s how you do it.
