Over the last few months, we have had contact with a few government and non-profit organisations about the prospect of building affordable housing for them and for Housing NZ and the newly formed KiwiBuild.
In some respects, this is a step away from our usual model of building rental property to enable people to invest and enjoy financial freedom. But the outcome for our tenants is the same – we are building warm, safe, comfortable houses for people who are renting.
There will always be a proportion of people in NZ who either cannot or do not wish to buy their own home and they need somewhere comfortable to live. The government has committed to building 100,000 homes to combat the housing crisis and we believe our experience in this sector will prove very useful. We know what tenants appreciate in a house, we know the locations that are popular, and we know how to utilise smaller spaces to get the most practical use from them. We have 14 years experience in building rental properties.
Unfortunately, the wheels of government move slowly and KiwiBuild has yet to begin, but we are looking forward to being involved when things start to move.
